BASIC SCIENCE

The Department of Basic Science and Humanities is one of the oldest departmentestablished at the time of inception of the College in 1980. In the proximity of this department, Basic Engineering and Skill subjects will be taught. The Basic Engineering subjects are Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The Skill subjects are Communicative English, Indian Constitution (CIP), Balake and Samskrutika Kannada, Scientific Foundation of Health (SFH), Information and Design Thinking (IDT), and Universal Human Values (UHV). Faculty members of the department are well experienced and qualified. The majority of them are having Doctorate degrees. Apart from academic work, the faculty members are actively involved in the Research Programme and published research articles in national and international journals of repute. The faculty members organized FDP programme, conferences, and seminars sponsored by AICTE, VGST, and GIET Management. Apart from conducting such programmes, the faculty members also attended conferences, seminars and FDP programmes not only in India, but also in overseas .

VTU sanctioned Research centres to Physics and Chemistry Department of this College and recognized research supervisors for 5 faculty members. So far 6 candidates in Chemistry and 4 candidates in Physics awarded PhD degrees from VTU who are registered through our research centres.

Department of Chemistry received a grant of Rs. 30 lakhs from VGST for research project entitled “Synthesis and development of conductive polymer composite and nano crystalline metal oxide thin film coatings for various applications.” Under VTU research grant scheme, Physics department received Rs. 8.7 lakhs for research project entitled “Optical and thermodynamic studies on some conventional liquid crystals” and the projects completed successfully.

VTU Belagavi identified some of the faculty members and assigned the positions like Chairman BOS, Chairman BOE, papers setters for University examinations. The Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics departments have well equipped and spacious laboratories with advanced lab instruments wherein the students can carry out lab work successfully.
