CIVIL ENGINEERING ( Accredited by NBA, AICTE New Delhi )
Profile
The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 1980 and is currently headed by Dr. Athiq Ulla Khan, Associate Professor.
The department has a recognized Research & Development Centre established in 2010 and also offers an M.Tech programme in Structural Engineering since 2011. It is supported by experienced senior faculty comprising doctorates and postgraduates, contributing to academic excellence and research.
The department has secured five university ranks and has been accredited four times by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and NAAC.
The department is well supported by a rich collection of library resources, with a large number of titles and volumes available in the central library along with a dedicated departmental library.
The department has submitted research proposals, and received worth around ₹1 crore. It has successfully executed multiple R&D and MODROBS projects with significant funding support, along with around 15 KSCST student projects.
Faculty members of the department have published over 310 research papers, organized more than 100 programmes, and actively participated in over 210 academic and professional events.
The department has strong international exposure, with faculty presenting research papers in countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia, China, and the UK, and has also conducted several technical meets and industry interactions in association with organizations like UltraTech Cement and ACC Cement.
Many faculty members have authored several books and serve as reviewers for reputed international journals, and are also members of VTU LIC and NBA expert committees.
Around 100 invited lectures have been delivered by faculty members at reputed institutions, including international universities. The department has developed extensive teaching aids and working models, and its graduates are well placed across India and abroad.
The department has strong consultancy and materials testing facilities and has generated around ₹30 lakhs through consultancy services. It is also approved by the Government of Karnataka for third-party inspection of government works.
The department organizes Faculty Development Programmes, workshops, and webinars in core Civil Engineering areas integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) for advanced and data-driven engineering applications.
Faculty members have developed in-house software tools for examination processes and result analysis. The department has also contributed to the planning, analysis, and design of campus buildings and successfully implemented rainwater harvesting systems within the campus.
Vision
To Transform the Department into a Centre of Excellence producing Quality Civil Engineers equipped with knowledge, skill, character and capability to compete nationally and globally.
Mission
To provide high quality Technical Education and Training to the budding Civil Engineers to nurture excellent civil engineering skills, human and social values, national and global competence.
Programme Educational Objectives:
- To produce, through quality education, highly capable civil engineers equipped with strong civil engineering and allied fundamentals necessary to face professional competition and achieve excellence.
- To produce civil engineers who can demonstrate analytical and design skills, and the ability to apply principles of mathematics, basic sciences, and engineering to effectively overcome civil engineering problems and challenges in their professional careers.
- To produce civil engineers with practical knowledge, positive attitude, sense of responsibility, and strong professional ethics, coupled with a zeal for lifelong learning and research.
Programme Outcomes (POs)
- Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
- Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
- Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
