Activities – Research Centre

The Research & Development (R&D) Centre in Civil Engineering was sanctioned during 2010 by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.Dr. Chethan Kumar S., Assoc. Prof., is the coordinator of this centre. Advanced testing facilities at the R&D Centre include a 200 kN Cyclic Loading Machine and modern equipment to support high-quality research. The centre is strengthened by access to the VTU Consortium, offering a wide range of international journals. It enables detailed testing of soil and construction materials, structural and cyclic loading studies, and research in geotechnical and composite materials. These facilities effectively support M.Tech and Ph.D scholars in carrying out impactful experimental research.

Publications:

Since 2004, the department faculty members have published over 310 research papers including Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4, organized over 89 programmes and attended over 250 programmes. They have presented papers at National and International conferences held in USA, Canada, Sydney, China, Melbourne, London, Portugal etc.

Future Prospects:

The department is actively engaged in advanced research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in Civil Engineering, with scholars working on predictive modelling and smart infrastructure solutions. Research also extends to Nano Civil Engineering materials and steel composite tubes under elevated temperatures, supported by numerical modelling using ABAQUS and NASTRAN. Efforts are underway to establish Micro-UTM and SEM facilities through research funding. Research scholars are encouraged to present and Publish in National and International platforms (Q1/Q2/Q3) with financial support. The department fosters innovation and industry-oriented research, creating a dynamic environment for aspiring engineers.
